The greyhounds are dying already. Surely that makes you feel better?

IT'S FINE.

In 2024, a greyhound died on a British racetrack every three days — and all that good, lean meat went to waste!

Between 2017 and 2024, over 4,000 greyhounds died, 35,000+ were injured, and thousands simply vanished from the records, written off as ‘wastage.’ Others were shipped abroad to countries with almost no welfare protections, where their fate is anyone’s guess.

The industry breeds 15,000–20,000 greyhounds in Ireland each year (plus more in Britain) — far more than are needed. Many spend their lives in poor kennels, and the surplus overwhelms rescue centres. (A ‘19 RTÉ documentary estimated up to 6,000 greyhounds are killed annually for not being fast enough.)

If we support dog racing as a country, isn’t it only right — and ethical — to ensure these animals aren’t wasted?

(If you’re feeling uneasy, you’re not alone — most racing supporters don’t want to dwell on this part of the industry.)

CHANGE IS PAWS-IBLE

If it bothers you to imagine these dogs being made into meat, perhaps it also bothers you that they’re being killed at all.

For generations, we’ve turned a blind eyeto the realities of the racing industry. But as a nation of dog lovers, perhaps it’s time we faced the truth and decided what we stand for.

Elwood’s Upcycled Greyhound isn’t real, but the UK racing deaths are.

If this made you uncomfortable, it’s because you already know the truth: Greyhounds aren’t products or objects. They’re just like the companion dogs we share our lives with — and they deserve better.

Imagine a Britain that chooses kindness, and decides no animal is “meant” for entertainment in the first place.
